A key focus will be to leverage digitalisation, data-driven approaches and emerging technologies to enhance audit effectiveness and strengthen the strategic impact of Group Internal Audit.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensure an independent, high-quality and risk-oriented audit function that enables the Board of Management, Supervisory Board and Audit Committee to fulfil their monitoring and oversight responsibilities.

  • Set the vision, strategy and priorities for Group Internal Audit, including audit planning, methodology, quality assurance and the continuous development of standards, tools and processes.

  • Lead a sizeable audit organisation with 6 direct reports and 64 indirect reports and with a strong functional reporting line for 17 Local Audit Heads (RBI Network Banks and other subsidiaries), by fostering a culture of integrity, objectivity, professional excellence, empowerment and continuous learning across the Group’s audit community.

  • Ensure the quality, correctness and impact of audit reports, including the assessment of significance of findings, alignment with auditees and follow-up on agreed measures.

  • Report audit results, significant findings and the effectiveness of the audit function to the Board of Management, individual Board members, the Supervisory Board Chairperson and the Audit Committee.

  • Act as key contact person for supervisory authorities and external auditors on internal audit matters, ensuring that regulatory expectations are met while safeguarding the independence of the audit function.

  • Drive the integration of advanced technologies, including AI, automation and data analytics, to raise significant efficiencies, enhance audit effectiveness, strengthen insight generation and ensure that audit methodologies remain fit for emerging digital business models and technology-related risks.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in business administration, economics, finance, law, audit or a comparable field; an international audit certification such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or comparable professional education, certification or credentials is expected.

  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical expertise in internal audit and banking, including at least three years of relevant experience in the same company or in a company with a comparable business model, as required for the function.

  • Sound understanding of Global Internal Audit Standards and leading audit practices, with the ability to translate regulatory and professional expectations into effective audit strategy, methodology, planning, stakeholder communication and quality management.

  • Strong expertise in banking regulation and governance, including relevant Austrian and European frameworks such as BWG, CRD/CRR and related supervisory requirements and ECB/FMA expectations.

  • Personal and professional suitability for a key function holder role in line with BWG/FMA Fit & Proper expectations and the relevant requirements under § 42 BWG in conjunction with § 5 para. 1 nos. 6 and 7 BWG, including the required banking expertise and experience, objective and independent judgement, and the absence of circumstances that could impair the objective perception of the internal audit function.

  • Proven ability to provide independent, objective and well-balanced judgement to senior stakeholders, including executive management, supervisory bodies, regulators and external auditors.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, presentation and conflict-resolution skills, combined with discretion, integrity, resilience and the ability to act with confidence in complex stakeholder environments.

  • Excellent written and spoken German and English are required. Willingness to travel within the RBI Group is expected.

  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies and digital transformation trends in banking, including AI, machine learning and robotic process automation, with the ability to assess related risks, controls and efficiency potential within an audit environment.

Additional Qualifications and Strengths

  • Experience in recruiting, developing, training and empowering internal auditors and senior audit leaders, with a proven ability to build audit competencies and a high-performing, independent audit organisation.

  • Strong understanding of banking business models, products and risks across corporate, investment, retail, treasury, lending, payments, leasing, risk management, compliance, accounting, reporting and IT-related areas.

  • Additional languages, especially CEE languages, are an advantage.
