Platform Engineer (f/m/x) - Mercury Runtime Platform
Join the Mercury Platform Team to design, build, and run a cloud-native, group-wide platform that accelerates delivery across the organization. You will create seamless developer experiences, enable zero-friction deployments, and manage secure multi-cluster Kubernetes at scale, turning platform capabilities into tangible business outcomes from namespace provisioning to production promotion.
This role combines high impact with hands-on engineering: you’ll work with cutting-edge, GitOps-driven and AI-enabled tooling to advance automation and distributed infrastructure, while collaborating closely with development teams to deliver self-service APIs and progressive delivery pipelines that directly address their needs.
Your mission:
- Build and operate a modern multi-cluster and multi-cloud Kubernetes platform (OKD/OpenShift on AWS, Azure, EU Cloud)
- Design and automate GitOps deployment pipelines with ArgoCD and Kargo
- Extend platform capabilities with Crossplane compositions and custom APIs
- Deep-dive into progressive delivery, service mesh (Istio), and policy enforcement (Kyverno)
- Use AI assistants and agents to accelerate engineering workflows
- Provide platform expertise and troubleshooting support to delivery teams
- Perform SRE work to keep multi-cluster environments stable, secure, and observable
Your core competencies:
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure patterns
E.g. experience with OKD/OpenShift, or similar self-operated K8s distros — operator development is a plus - Experience with GitOps tools (ArgoCD, FluxCD, or similar)
- Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (Crossplane, Terraform, or similar)
- Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting (Grafana, Prometheus, or similar)
- Practical experience with AWS or similar providers
- Solid coding skills in at least one of the following languages; Python preferred, or Go/Java
- Strong security mindset — identity management, encryption, and policy enforcement matter to you
- Openness to explore the latest AI tech trends with us

- Salary: In accordance with Austrian legal requirements, the minimum salary for this position is EUR 4.611, -- gross per month under the applicable IT Collective Agreement. The actual salary is typically higher and will be determined individually based on your qualifications, professional experience, and the specific requirements of the role.
